The Wine Independent, Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"The single-varietal 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Montagna Vineyard is deep garnet-purple colored. It gallops out with vibrant notes of crushed blackcurrants, fresh plums, and boysenberries, backed up by hints of Indian spices and camphor with a waft of violets. The full-bodied palate is jam packed with juicy black fruits, supported by fine-grained tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and perfumed."

2019 HALL Montagna Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting notes

The 2019 Montagna opens with deep, integrated, complex aromas of briary blackberry, marionberry and subtle oak notes. Blue and black fruit flavors are confirmed on the palate, as well as notes of dusty earth and spice. And the plentiful, ripe, tannins cascade into a silky, sweet midpalate and a very decadent and voluptuous finish.

Montagna Vineyards

Located at the western edge of Pritchard Hill, on the Vaca Mountain slopes overlooking Lake Hennessey's southern shore.

La Presa Block

At 1,500 feet, the Montagna Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon benefits from a south-facing aspect ensuring ample maturation, usually above the fog line. The cooler days and warmer nights enable gradual grape ripening.

Volcanic Aiken Series Soils

This shallow soil ranges from 12 to 18 inches deep, compelling vine roots to seek nourishment deep within the rock. These challenging conditions yield wines of remarkable concentration and complexity.

Vintage Notes

Our 2019 growing season began with ample rainfall and lingering soil moisture. A warm, extended summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season helped to preserve freshness and balance in the fruit with hang time that allowed for impressive color, structure and tannin. This is an exceptional vintage defined by well integrated acidity, dense texture, and great depth.
