Wine Enthusiast, Matt Kettmann

Juicy aromas of black cherry, hibiscus and rose extract are spiced up by hints of ginger on the fresh and lively nose of this bottling. The potent palate is awash in cherry, strawberry, cinnamon and chai flavors, leading into an elegantly floral finish.

Bottle of Walt Sierra Mar against a blurred background of a man drinking a glass of red wine.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Sierra Mar Pinot Noir unfolds with lifted aromas of dark plum, raspberry and mountain sage chaparral with a twist of orange zest. Plush yet structured, the palate delivers concentrated red and dark berry fruit framed by fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. A streak of savory minerality drives the long, vibrant finish, echoing the energy and elevation of this windswept site.

Vintage Notes

The 2024 vintage began with much-needed winter rainfall that revitalized the soil and set the stage for healthy vine growth and a balanced crop. Summer was marked by mostly moderate temperatures, with a brief burst of warmth around Labor Day, when well-developed canopies shielded the fruit from excess heat. As harvest approached, mild daytime temperatures and cool nights arrived, allowing for steady ripening into September. The resulting wines showcase beautiful color and depth, with precise acidity, rich texture, and concentrated flavors.
